Welcome to the Azores and São Miguel

Upon arrival at Ponta Delgada International Airport on the Azorean island of São Miguel, you’ll be met by a driver and brought to your hotel in the city’s center. Explore the cobblestone streets of the Azores’ largest city. Visit the Portas da Cidade (city gate), the historic St. Sebastian Church, and Forte de São Brás, or simply relax at your hotel in the marina.

In the late afternoon, meet the group for a short walking tour and Azorean Cheese & Wine Reception followed by a tapas dinner.

Day 2 – Monday · 25 Oct 2027

Full-Day Eastern São Miguel Furnas Tour & Cooking Class

Today is a very full day. Begin with a stop at the island’s tea plantation, the oldest in all of Europe. Learn how the old machinery is still used and take a short walk in the tea fields. Continue to Furnas town where you have a ‘cozido’ cooking class. Prepare the ingredients and learn how to layer the pot, then head to Furnas Lake where your hard work will be ‘cooked’ in the ground using the geothermal heat.

Enjoy a local fish lunch before visiting Terra Nostra Park to walk around the award-winning botanical gardens and soak in the geothermal hot springs. In the evening, return to the kitchen where you cooked to enjoy the local ‘cozido’ dinner that you prepared earlier in the day, as it’s been removed from its geothermal steam ‘oven.’

Day 3 – Tuesday · 26 Oct 2027

Market Visit, Sete Cidades Caldera & Immigration Museum

Get an early start to the day and visit the market in the old town to learn about all that is grown and caught locally in the Azores. Then head a local pineapple plantation to view the unique growing environment. Travel to the western part of the island and the Sete Cidades caldera for a view of the famous green-blue lake. Have a local lunch in Ribeira Grande before a visit to the Immigration Museum and the liquor factory.

In the evening, enjoy a traditional Azorean octopus dinner.

Day 4 – Wednesday · 27 Oct 2027

Quinta do Agricultur & Terceira Island

Pack your bags and get ready to change islands. This morning, before your flight, visit the Quinta do Agricultur, one of the original farms on the island. Learn about traditional farming and growing in the Azores and the traditional way of life. Enjoy a light lunch including the fresh baked bread, which you must remove from the oven.

After a quick inter-island flight to Terceira, transfer to your city-center hotel. Terceira was the third island to be discovered by the Portuguese and Angra’s old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This evening, enjoy a friendly welcome to the island and dinner at the hotel.

Day 5 – Thursday · 28 Oct 2027

Angra City Tour, Coffee/Fruit farm visit & Praia da Vitória

This morning take a walking tour around the UNESCO World Heritage capital city of Angra do Heroísmo. Learn more about the traditional Azorean city and its importance in the political, economic, and religious growth of the Azores archipelago. Visit the Duke of Terceira Garden a garden filled with many plant species gifted from around the world, emblematic of the Romantic period of Portuguese history.

Then head to tour the local coffee and fruit tree plantation before enjoying the traditional Alcatra lunch, cooked in clay pots. In the afternoon visit Praia da Vitória, the second largest village on the island and home to the US Airforce base.

Day 6 – Friday · 29 Oct 2027

Full-Day Terceira Island Tour

Today’s full-day tour of Terceira begins at the majestic Monte Brasil, a natural park with views of the bays and the historic city of Angra do Heroísmo. Then head towards the east coast of the island, visiting Porto Judeu and São Sebastião, historic parishes with great importance in the culture and tradition of the island. Stop at the famous Serra do Cume for one of the most emblematic views of the island. After lunch, the tour continues to the Algar do Carvão lava caves. Inside, visitors can explore a lava tunnel approximately 700 meters long, formed by ancient basaltic eruptions. End the day in the parish of Biscoitos to explore its small vineyards and the famous natural swimming pools.

Tonight’s farewell dinner will be in the marina at an oceanfront restaurant known for its local flare.
